We all come into this world to find connection and avoid rejection. So when a young child feels rejected or their emotional needs are not met, they assume one of these four subconscious roles to feel significant or feel indispensable.

The four roles are:

  1. The Carer: one who feels indispensible when they care for everybody.
  2. The Perfect one: who feels important when they are best at everything.
  3. The Sick one: who feels loved and safe when they get attention when they are sick.
  4. The Difficult one or the Rebel: who feels heard when the principal calls the parents to complain about the child Sometimes we continue to play the same role even as an adult.

One patient of mine who had lichen planus realised during her session that she was still playing the role of a sick person which
she had subconsciously taken when as a child she saw her parents attention getting divided when her younger sister was born and the only time she got their full attention was when she was sick. So her mind felt that she was safe when she was sick. No wonder she always would have some or the other skin or health issue.

If you are suffering from a skin disease then ask yourself “ Am I playing the Sick role?” if the answer is yes then read the captions to know what to communicate with the subconscious and get yourself out of this role
